Is network marketing a scam www.decritic.com
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Wash hands; Cough into elbow; No, don’t touch your face; wear a mask; keep a social distance; if you feel any symptoms, rush to the hospital. While we are still trying our best to keep up with these new “Corona” lockdown rules, some network marketers have seized the opportunity to deceive people into making money through network marketing. Seriously, not all network marketing are real and you don’t want to be the victim of any scam this period. I almost was a victim once before I found the truth. We are locked down, right? well chill, let me tell you my story.

Sometime around July 2018, a distant friend walked up to me and told me about a network marketing company. She claimed that this company would enable me to build a life I wanted for myself. She said I could become financially buoyant just by investing some money into the business and selling some products as a side business. The lady added that I will recruit people, make a lot of commission and soonest, I will be living my dream life. I had always wanted to be financially free, so it was easy for me to get sold. I was to be scammed.

“This is a genuine network marketing, not a scam. Join the group. This platform is really paying. I just got paid”.

That is the kind of messages you get on social media these trying times. Network Marketing, also called Multi-level marketing is a kind of business, no! a scheme with complex commission structures which is dependent on the mass of products you move or the number of people you recruit. Network Marketing is a pyramid scheme in which someone is recruited by another person called an “up-line”. This pyramid system then mandates recruits to get other recruits called “down-lines”.

Here are 4 reasons against network marketing

1. Some network marketing companies make it sound easy:
We all know selling in business takes time and is demanding. Why do you think most salesmen are running away from marketing? Yet, network marketers try to convince you that it is easy and make you sell things you don’t understand or have zero interest in e.g. lotions, supplements, etc.

2. Most Up-lines make up stories to convince people to be recruited:
Lies!!! Lies!!! Lies!!! Most network marketers want to recruit as many people in order to earn commissions, so they lie. They say things like “Do you know that with #2000 you can become a house owner worth #120million in 2020” Lies.

3. Most networking market companies make use of complex commission structures:
This may hinder recruits from understanding the system of the payment allocated to them at each stage. Who wants to be in a business where he or she works very hard but doesn’t understand the commission systems of payment of the company?

4. History has shown that 80% of most network marketing collapse:
Lack of empirical verification, a break in the chain, difficulty to maintain steady new recruits, fraudulent intent of some directors, the list is endless. Would you rather stay for history to repeat itself?
